Initiated in 2009, the Tree Planting Project is administered by FEE’s International Learning about Forests Programme with Panasonic Japan donating an amount per product. Until 2011 almost 900,000 trees have been planted, building on a staggering 600,000 in 2010 by 44 countries and more than 4,000 school classes and 260,000 in 29 countries by more than 100,000 students from over 1,000 classes.

Commenting on the project Finn Bolding Thomsen, Director of FEE, said: “Not only does the cooperation support FEE’s aim of raising environmental awareness among children, including the vital role of trees and forests in relation to climate change but also other sustainability issues related to trees and forests, such as:  biodiversity, forestry, and the socio-cultural values of trees and forests.”

He added: “Panasonic Japan contribute significantly to global efforts to reduce the level of CO2  through these tree planting projects and FEE is proud to implement the initiative, this year during what is also the UN Year of Forests.”
