Here is the reporting from the tree planting event at Chakada Gogua High school in Chakada-Gogua, India:

Tree planting is an important element in the solution to tackle climate change. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and are vital carbon sinks. Planting trees helps reduce the risk of catastrophic climate change. Planting trees helps to counteract the effects of deforestation, which stabilizes the local climate and soil. It also provides an important habitat for wildlife and contributes to biodiversity. Tree planting project is a simple but ingenious method to heal the planet. Planting trees is a great way to make students aware that their actions have a big impact on the environment. About 300 school students along with their teachers were participated in our tree planting campaign during first and second week of July 2011. To make this programme a success, we have made sure that these saplings and small trees being planted in waste land are nurtured for a long time. Together we have been planted some important local species like (gooseberry, neem, eucalyptus, etc) and fruit trees like (mango, black-berry, tamarind, jack fruit, guava etc). While there is no one solution to the world’s ecological and climate change problems, it is a time tested fact that the simple stand the most effective solution are to just plant trees.

With heightened community awareness of global climate change, individuals and school teachers and students are determined to be part of the solution. Many dignitaries have also participated in Vanamahotsava educational programme; (a great festival of tree planting) at Chakada Gogua High school on 1st July 2011. The local forest officials along with, volunteers, school teachers and students were participated. All the resource persons were presented their speech on importance of tree planting and climate change in the environmental educational meeting .The participants were asked for question & answer section on the subject tree planting and climate change. Educating the students in these matters is also indirectly resulting in the education of their parents and family members. This activity was help participants to understanding of the programme was end with a street theater on tree planting and climate change.
