If a new country wishes to start up the implementation of a FEE programme nationally, the relevant International FEE Programme Coordinator is contacted for more information about the programme concerned.
In order to start the implementation of a FEE programme nationally, a suitable organisation must first of all be identified to become member of FEE and carry out the task as national administrator of the FEE programme. To be eligible for FEE membership, the organisation must have the following profile:
- Non-governmental organisation (NGO)
- not-for-profit organisation
- nation-wide organisation within their country
- able to run more than one FEE programme
- able to secure sufficient funds to meet obligations of FEE membership, i.e. membership fee, running of programmes, contributions towards programme levy costs
- ideally the organisation should have been in existence for at least three years
- must be working towards an environmental policy
- be democratic and open to all regardless of gender, race, religion
- must demonstrate that environmental education is one of its principal activities and that it will promote the activities and philosophy of FEE
- have access to a properly equipped office
- have a daily contact who knows about the NGO activities and speaks English, as the working language of FEE is English
If there is no suitable organisation, a new national organisation can be founded.
Before applying for FEE membership, please contact the FEE Secretariat. The national organisation must complete an application form for becoming an associate FEE member organisation, and the application form must have various supporting information enclosed. Without all the required information enclosed, it is not possible for FEE to assess the application. The FEE statutes and Rules of Procedure can be downloaded for information. There is an annual cost of being associate member of FEE of 2300€ - 3200€ (depending on the GDP of the country).
The application will be treated by the FEE Executive Board (meeting 4 times a year). If the application for FEE membership is accepted by the FEE Executive Board, the decision will subsequently need to be ratified by the FEE General Assembly. It is required that a representative from the applicant organisation attends the FEE General Assembly.
When an organisation is accepted as associate member of FEE, a mentor from the FEE Executive Board is appointed to support the organisation concerned with the work and tasks as FEE member organisation (a mentor visit to the country concerned will be conducted once a year during the associate FEE membership). Being a member of FEE furthermore means that the organisation is expected to be an active participant in the FEE General Assembly (33-85% of the travel costs will be reimbursed depending on the GDP of the country) and also an active participant in the activities of the FEE programme that is being implemented. There is an annual review of the associate FEE member organisation taking place in connection with the FEE General Assembly.
Full Membership of FEE
Within 3-5 years of FEE membership, the “associate member of FEE” must become “full member of FEE”. In order to achieve the full FEE membership, the organisation must implement at least two FEE programmes.
The full FEE membership enables the organisation to achieve full voting rights at the FEE General Assembly and stand for election for the FEE Executive Board. The annual cost of being full member of FEE is 3350€ - 4650€ (depending on the GDP of the country). It is naturally expected that also full FEE member is fully actively participating in the FEE General Assembly and the implemented FEE programmes. There is a review of the full FEE member organisation taking place normally every 4 years in connection with the FEE General Assembly.
Affiliate Membership of FEE
If you are an international organisation/institution or a second national organisation wishing to be connected to FEE, this is possible through becoming affiliate member of FEE.
In order to become affiliate member of FEE, the application must be followed with a cooperation agreement with FEE where the specific relation to FEE is clarified.
If you are a second national organisation, your membership must be approved by the already existing FEE member organisation.
The annual cost of being affiliate member of FEE is normally 100€ (in some cases is the affiliate FEE membership fee at the same size as associate FEE membership fee - contact the FEE Secretariat for more information).
