FEE´s CO2 Compensation Fund
Climate change is affected by most types of transportation (flights, cars, boats, trains, etc). In order to protect the climate, it is of course best to minimize the effects though travelling less or through carefully choosing the means of transportation. This is however not easy in our globalised world.
As FEE is an organisation working for promoting sustainable development, we have decided to establish a general compensation of the CO2 emission from all our international flight travels.
The distance between city of departure and city of arrival can be calculated using the Geobytes City Distance Tool. Knowing the distance you are going to travel, the CO2 compensation cost can be calculated using the formula as indicated in the CO2 calculation method.
The CO2 Fund will support environmental education activities
The funding derived from CO2 compensation will be entered into a CO2 Fund administrated by the International Learning about Forests (LEAF) Coordination.
Schools involved in the environmental education programmes of FEE (LEAF, Eco-Schools and YRE) can through their national coordinator apply for funding from the CO2 Fund for planting of trees. The tree planting must be combined with environmental education activities. Schools from countries outside the FEE network can also apply for funding from the CO2 Fund and a national NGO must apply on behalf of the school. Documents with application form and application procedure can be downloaded from the right box of this page.
90% of the income is used for planting of trees combined with environmental education activities. Information about the use of the CO2 Fund of FEE will be produced continuously and can be downloaded from the right box of this page.
You can participate!
FEE has decided that also persons, organisations and institutions outside the FEE network can have CO2 compensation of flight and car travels through FEE´s CO2 Fund by using the FEE Donation Shop.
In case of any questions regarding the FEE CO2 offset payment system or use of the CO2 Fund of FEE, please do not hesitate to contact the FEE Secretariat.
You can read more about FEE's CO2 Fund in the publication "FEE's CO2 Compensation Fund".
